Canada Day in Greely: Firefighter Demonstration

On July 1st, 2014 the Greely Community Association hosted a Canada Day festival at the Greely Community Centre. I went there and took a lot of photographs. The ones in this posting mainly deal with the Firefighter Demonstration.

I took this at 5:00 p.m. when the festival officially started. By the time it ended the street was full of cars on both sides. I didn't photograph that because it was very dark and I doubt the pictures would have turned out.

This is the first fire truck arriving at the Canada Day site. PT93 tells that it's a tanker with station 93, the Greely fire station. Greely gets its water from wells and has very few hydrants. A fire service water tanker is essential.

This is the Greely fire station's heavy rescue vehicle. There is a major east-west service road and a north-south highway that intersect in Greely. The heavy rescue is fully equipped for extrication. Extrication means that if a person gets trapped in a car due to an unfortunate automobile accident the firefighters can get them out safely and with a minimum of trauma to the car's occupants.

I was quite happy to find that the three trucks from the Greely fire station all display the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation logo.

Here's another look at the tanker.

The tanker's Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation logo.

This vehicle is used to deploy and tend to the portatank. In rural communities this is very important.

This is the portatank tender's Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation logo.

Another view of the portatank tender.

This shows the Greely Fire Rescue flash on the tanker.
This is a closer view of the flash. OFS is for Ottawa Fire Service. 93 on the Maltese cross is for station 93. Taz stands in the foreground wielding a jaws of life, used for extrication, and a fire hose.

This shows the portatank set up, filled with water and with hoses connected.

The trucks have been setup. Firefighters gave tours of the heavy rescue truck.

Of course, the firefighters put out the boot to take donations to help fight muscular dystrophy.

The police were at the festival and I photographed the vehicles. I'm putting the pictures here.

You can see the police cars are different models with different markings.

This car is equipped to carry bicycles.

You can compare markings here and you can see the bicycles carried by the car on the right.
