My Clematis Part 2

We have had some very cool temperatures after several days of rain. The growth of the clematis seemed to slow during that period. It may have been a case where the number of stalks became so great that it just appears to have slowed down.

The stalks snake up with tendrils grabbing on to things. Later on the leaves become quite prominent. There are now small buds in evidence. I hope the plant holds off with flowering until it's gone up another slat or hopefully two before it starts flowering. Once it starts doing that it will stop getting larger.

I have taken a picture each day from this angle. It seems repetitious but each time you see this another day has passed. This may not be the first picture taken on a given day.

At the time this was taken this was the largest leaf on the plant. Since then other leaves have grown around it.

It seems like the stalks grow up straight and then flop over. They're probably doing that to find something to grab. I frequently guide them to something they can grab.

I removed the support rope as the stalks it held had reached a point where they could support themselves. This stalk was flopping down so I put the rope on it to support it until it can hold itself up.

The top stalk has just passed the fourth slat here.

Something's been eating this leaf. It must have disagreed with whatever animal did this because it stopped and I didn't find any critters under the leaf or anywhere else nearby.

After about four days of rain and temperatures close to freezing the top stalk is well on its way to the next slat up the trellis.
